Our Story

The road
so far.

A lifelong love of cars, years behind the espresso machine, and one roaster in a Newcastle garage. Here's how Flat Six came to be.

The founder

Two obsessions.

Flat Six Coffee was founded by Anthony — a lifelong car fanatic who'd already spent years working in the coffee industry.

The cars came first. The coffee followed at fourteen, with a first espresso that stuck. The two have been running side by side ever since.

From first espresso
to first roast.

2010

Importing the good stuff

Anthony started bringing his favourite coffee over from Italy, supplying local businesses across Newcastle with beans he believed in.

2013

The first coffee shop

Doors open. Years behind the machine, dialling in exactly what great coffee should taste like — and building a following for it.

The first roast

Roasting always felt like the inevitable next step. The very first batch came off an Aillio Bullet 1kg on 9.11.2023 — the 911 being purely coincidental. Mostly.

2024

FLAT SIX OPENS ON PILGRIM STREET

Four months later, the micro-roastery and espresso bar opened its doors in Newcastle — cars and coffee finally under one roof, built alongside like-minded local enthusiasts.

ENTER THE PROBAT

Demand outgrew the Bullet. A gas-powered Probat took over — better coffee, more of it, and a roaster we're genuinely proud to stand behind.

The mission

Excellent coffee.
As fresh as possible.
